Here is Mattie at the Napoleon auction. It is hard to tell in this photo, but you can see her ribs, her wormy belly, and oh those overgrown hooves ... no wonder now how JCAC managed to overlook "farrier" and "wormer" in their bond request, and just wrote them in later at the bottom.
Better photo outside, the day after the auction:
Like Jamie, she had bloodworms, ascarids and tapeworms, and her Coggins say she is a 3 year old although she is just two.
Mattie, just three weeks later, healthy winter coat coming in and looking bright and alert:
So glad for Mattie and her buddy Jamie, that they were not one of the several horses that allegedly sold to known meat (slaughterhouse) buyers at the Napoleon sale, but are instead getting pampered like princesses in their new homes.
She likewise may be pregnant and is getting vet checked for that. Again, neither Matt nor Jim are responsible for breeding any of the mares this season! Any mares found to be bred for 2008 are the result of JCAC's mismanagement of the herd after they took over "care" of them in March. Foal due dates will prove this, as well as the pre-trial testimony of several witnesses. Very young fillies should not be bred, period! They need time to grow and mature, and the young stud colts should not be pasture breeding either. That is why they were kept separate up until JCAC stepped in.
Boy, did they ever step in it.
